Dan Keating joined The Washington Post in 1999 after working for 11 years at The Miami Herald. Keating was part of a team that won the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting in 1999 for work on voter fraud in a mayoral election in Miami. He worked on a story about abuse of police overtime that was a finalist for the Pulitzer in Investigative Reporting in 1998. Keating has also been on teams that won Harvard’s Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting, National Press Foundation’s Dirkson Award for Congressional Coverage, Online News Association’s Knight Award for Public Service, the Casey Medal for Meritorious Service Online, Society of Professional Journalist’s National Sunshine Award, Sigma Delta Chi’s Washington Correspondence Award, as well as additional national, local and regional awards. Keating was a finalist for a Gerald Loeb award in the explanatory category in 2014 and in 2015, both times working on a two-person team. After four years in Key West that included reporting from Cuba, Keating specialized in computer-assisted reporting in 1993. He co-led a media consortium that recounted the ballots from the 2000 presidential election in Florida. He is an adjunct lecturer teaching in the graduate program at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. Keating worked four years at The Berkshire Eagle after earning his degree in psychology at Williams College.
