A First Amendment Imperative: Accessing Accurate Government Data

Feedback form is now closed.
Business journalists cannot fully exercise their First Amendment rights without having access to high-quality, taxpayer-funded data. Reliable statistics from government agencies, such as the BEA, BLS, Census Bureau and the Department of Commerce, are drivers of economic decisions — and we need to see ‘em! But concerns have been raised about disappearing data*. The Sunlight Foundation says it has documented “substantial removals and overhauls of webpages, documents, research, and websites, reducing public access to public information across the federal webspace.” What are the latest developments? What can we do to protect data?

*Learn what SABEW’s First Amendment Initiative is doing about this.
